These Christmas paper cones are made using the Tiny treasures Paper pad and dimensional stickers. It’s a nice project for children if you lend a helping hand when rolling the cone.
A good tip is to use glue tape to glue the edges together and then use a tacker to secure the glued edges.

Here are some pictures we took while playing around with gift-wrap and decor.
The hare and teacups from the Tiny Treasure collection reminded us of Alice in Wonderland. A good idea if you are wrapping gifts for children.

You might say it is early to present spring, especially if you are in Norway looking out on the snow, but in our experience crafters need time to prepare and plan for any season. So here is a look at the new Tilda collections Apple Bloom and Spring Lake.

Apple bloom

“Nothing says spring more than warm green combined with lilac pink and tan yellow. These sweet spring colours and patterns will have you longing for the new blossoms of spring.
Apple Bloom is a classically feminine and pretty spring collection that we hope will appeal to girls of all ages”

Spring Lake

“The cool shade of aqua of a refreshing spring lake surrounded by light green budding trees inspired the colours of the Spring Lake collection. The pattern was inspired by a closet full of sweet, retro summer dresses in which different designs seem to belong together because the owner loves a particular colour scheme”

The Apple Bloom Quilt

Many have requested the pattern for the Apple Bloom Quilt, and here it comes.  Writing explanations in English is always a bit daunting, but we think you’ll find the necessary information.

This sweet Apple Bloom Quilt is 58 x 58 Inches (170 x 170 cm) and great for picnics, as a play quilt or a cozy sofa quilt.
If you want a bed quilt you can easily add another Log Cabin row or two. Each row will including the border build 16,5 inches (41 cm).

Apple-Bloom-quilt-1

The quilt top is made with 11 of the 12 Apple Bloom fabrics (all except Leaves and Berries Pink), you will also need off-white fabric for the pieces between the Log Cabin blocs.

Apple-Bloom-quilt-2

We only pieced the Log Cabin blocks together in two different ways, seen here as block 1 and 2, then made eight of each and repeated them every other time.
By using only two blocks the quilt gets a calm rhythm. If you want a busier quilt try making 16 different Log Cabin blocks.

Apple-Bloom-quilt-3

Here are the measurements for the Log Cabin pieces, the off-white pieces, and the little squares for each corner. The measurements are in inches and you need to add seem allowance.

Apple-Bloom-quilt-4

You will need 8 pieces of each size for each of the two Log Cabin blocks, 40 off-white pieces, 13 pink and 12 teal corner squares.

This drawing shows how many pieces you need of each size, and witch fabric we have used for the different sized pieces.
You recognize the pieces by looking at the letters. “A” is the middle piece on 2,5 x 2,5 inch and so on.

You can find many tutorials on how to sew Log Cabin blocks on You Tube. Piece the quilt top together as shown here.

The quilting (a medium sized crazy puzzle) is done by a professional quilting service. You will probably find a company that can baste and quilt your larger patchworks near you by searching on the Internet. If you prefer to hand quilt use a basting spray or basting gun to baste the layers together.

For the binding we have used “Jean Dove White”.

Pam & Nicky Lintott at The Quilt Room have made this gorgeous block of the month quilt using the new “Spring Lake” and “Apple bloom” collection.
The quilt is 84 in x 84 in, 214 x 214 cm, and suitable for competent beginners through to advanced quilters.

The cottage to castle quilt is inspired by traditional antique English frame quilts and has various frames which use different techniques. It is mainly machine pieced but they’ve thrown in a few hexagons which are hand sewn using English paper piecing.

Pretty and useful

This spring we have a few new sewing equipment items, among others the “Sewing by hand” thread in two colours and the popular small sharp Tilda scissor in a new soft Teal colour.

The scissor was a favourite for many years before we suggested making it in a Tilda colour 8 years ago, and we still can’t manage without it. It’s the scissor we use every day for both paper and small sewing projects.

The hand sewing thread is a gorgeous polyester quality that has been a favourite as long as we have known about it, used on every hand sewn project in the last book “Homemade & Happy”.

Pretty-and-useful-1

We use it as an all-around hand sewing thread for paper piecing, attaching applique pieces, for all smaller hand quilted projects such as the quilted Santa and stockings in the book, and for attaching arms and legs on dolls and animals.

We always end up using this thread because it behaves beautifully on every project. Now available in the Tilda range, the cosy wooden bobbins come with 400 meters of lovely thread.

A perfect find

A little over a year ago on one of our antique trips Tone fell completely in love with this very old crocked and worm eaten ribbon stand, and brought it home.
It is the inspiration for one of our favourite products yet, the new vintage ribbon stand. It is smart yet simple, and it looks so good in the studio.
The metal rods are thin enough even for the new sewing thread bobbins. A great antique find witch inspired a lovely product.

We really enjoy the cute textile buttons on vintage button cards, and besides the obvious uses they make great spring and summer jewellery.

Button-up-1

Use some hair gel, nail polish, or just water to hold the treads on the tip of the string together, it makes it is easier to pull the string trough the holes.

We just tied the jewellery on, but you can easily add a jewellery clasp.
