Hope you all had a great summer!
Autumn is just around the corner, and we have two new collections to present as well as a new large cozy-cottage Tilda book. Here is a little preview.

The upcoming book

The new Tilda book “Hjemmelaget og lykkelig” (Happiness is Homemade) is photographed in Tone’s mountain cottage where the whole family spends Christmas.
We had a great time surrounded by mountains and snow, and with Tone’s little sister Tiril as the model, as well as the family dog Totto.

Book

This is an autumn and winter book, with naive characters and a cosy cottage feel.
You will find appliqué and hand quilt projects, ideas for Christmas decorations, warm quilts, and animals such as reindeer, lambs, owls and pigs on wheels.
A large appliqued and quilted Santa is the star of the book, and angels are made in the angel workshop.

The book will be available in Norwegian in September. The English translation will follow a couple, or a few weeks later. We will keep you updated.

Have a great weekend!

The second collection this autumn is “Tiny Treasures”. The fabrics are soft red and blue, sweet but not too sweet because the colors are more muted than bright. Some might think of a classic Northern look.

Like the previously presented “Happiness is Homemade” collection, “Tiny Treasures” consists of nine fabrics plus one basic fabric with little stars that matches the rest.
You will also find a selection of “Tiny Treasures” items like ribbons, buttons and Paper Craft to go with the fabric.

We hope you enjoy the new Tilda fabric collections this autumn. Both collections are used in the upcoming Tilda book.

The collection is available in Fat quarters, Fat quarter bundles, Charm packs and by the yard.

The day Amador learned to sew

We have followed the sweet and entertaining Amador “Amadoreros” on YouTube for some time as he flics trough Tilda books, and “houl’s” about products from his craft room in the US.
He has a passion for life, craft and quirkiness, and inspires many with his honest and humorous approach.

For a long time he has prepared to learn to sew. Collecting books and ordering fabric and accessories.
A little while ago (we didn’t discover it until now) he had a breakthrough.

His joy is infectious as three very pretty new Tilda strawberries see the light.
He later moved on to a Tilda doll, planning to get more and more advanced, but here is the clip of the day Amador learned how to sew. And his message is “Everyone can do it!”

We all have to start somewhere, and Amador will almost certainly inspire those of you that want to learn to sew from scratch.

Best of luck!

For those of you who are into both paper and sewing, the Happiness is Homemade paper pad is paper with craft and sewing motives. Perfect for scrapping about your craft and sewing projects or for cards and gifts for fellow crafters.

There is also a pastel vintage Christmas theme going trough, so you can choose to use some of the motives for sweet crafty Christmas ornaments.

The pad consists of 24 double-sided sheets, 3 of each design, including cut out sheets with homemade angels, lambs and reindeer as well as sewing equipment images.
You get little woven paper heart baskets to cut out, sheets with button, thread and needle-cards and wings to use for your craft projects. There is also paper with simpler designs suitable for backgrounds.
Here is a preview of some of the designs.

Have a creative weekend!

The English translation of the new Tilda book (translated as we speak) is due in November. The name is “Homemade & Happy”.

You can pre-order the English version at Stitch Craft Create or Amazon among others, or perhaps learn Norwegian and get the original version…

The Norwegian version is at the printers and will be out this month trough Tilda wholesalers and retailers, at Panduro Hobby, and trough the Norwegian publisher Cappelen Damm.

Button cards

One of the new series of products this season are cute collectable button cards with fabric buttons, wooden buttons and mini cotton reels. The cards have a sweet look with little vintage motives.

Our favourites at the moment are the fabric buttons, but that might change. The wooden buttons works well with the rustic cottage look in the new book, and the cotton reels can be used as sewing equipment for dolls, or on a mini sewing machine.

Behind the scenes

The days we photograph books are the busiest of the year, and there is not much time to take behind the scenes footage. However, we would like to share the few that wee managed to take during the Homemade & Happy photoshoot.

There is a lot of waiting for Tiril and a good book is necessary.  Luckily the other model Totto has the ability to sleep for twenty hours a day.
Sølvi is captured while showing Tiril how to stand in the door for the Welcome picture.
The portrait of Totto is taken by Tiril (fake fur of course).
Ingrid is holding the reflector, trying to reflect daylight into the darker arias of the motif, and Tone is setting up the layout and adding pictures as we work.

Finally weekend and time to sit down with a cup of tea and look trough the new book. There is a memory behind every picture from the cozy photo shoot at the cottage.
Making a book is fun and exhausting, and it is difficult to relax until it is finished.
As always with craft books, it’s just a book until you find something that you want to make, that is when the magic happens. Hope you find something you want to make in this one.

Have a great weekend!

Christmas is coming up, and some of you might be busy making homemade Christmas gifts.
This Autumn we have “HOMEMADE” ribbon in two colors that can be nice to use on your homemade gifts.

You can tie ribbon around a jar of homemade cookies, sew a piece on to sewn or knitted gifts, or simply use it for gift wrapping.

The wrapping is the gift

It is often said the wrapping is the gift, especially among us crafters. There is a lot of love in thoughtful gift wrapping. Why not take it a bit further and wrap gifts in useful things, like fabric, lots of ribbon and a button card with buttons as a tag.

When giving away homemade cookies, a vintage jar and a wooden Tilda star can be a nice additional gift.

Tiny Treasures quilt

In the new Tilda book Homemade & Happy this simple quilt is mentioned as an idea in connection with the even simpler striped lap quilt for new beginners on page 113.
With a new addition to the Tilda group, seamstress Ingun, we thought it would be nice to see how it looks in real life.
This large 220 x 150 (88 x 60 inch) cosy Nordic autumn quilt instantly made us all feel safe and worm, and ready for the cold dark months ahead.

Tiny-Treasures-quilt

The quilt is as the name states made with all the fabric from the Tiny Treasures collection. In addition we have used Mina Pink with soft Pink roses.

Tiny-Treasures-quilt-2

The patchwork is sewn together using 66, 4 x 20 inch (10 x 50 cm) rectangles + seem allowance.
Below is a drawing of how the fabric is sewn together. The fabric-patterns are enlarged for better recognisability.

For the backing two fabric lengths are sewn together.
“Mini Star Light Blue” or “Rough stripe blue” works well as backing fabric for this quilt.

The quilting (a medium sized crazy puzzle) is done by a professional quilting service. You will probably find a company that can baste and quilt your larger patchworks near you by searching on the Internet. If you prefer to hand quilt use a basting spray or basting gun to baste the layers together.

For the binding we have used “Sofia Blue” (the blue fabric with roses).
